A beautiful beach surrounded by pine trees and mountains, situated in the municipality of Capdepera, about 80 kilometres from Palma de Mallorca. The water here is sparklingly clean and appears wonderfully light blue, making it the perfect place for swimming and to practise marine sports. Well-connected by pedestrian paths to Cala Mesquida, and along the way you pass neighbouring Cala Moltó, frequented by naturists. Snack bar and a pay-to-park area. Take the Manacor road to Capdepera and then head for Cala Rajada.

Portals Vells

This fine sandy beach is particularly popular with locals and families. In the sandy bays with turquoise water there are numerous caves to explore. There is a kiosk offering snacks, a small restaurant, and sanitary facilities. Many big yachts visit this picturesque bay in summer. Only limited parking available.

Formentor

This lovely narrow beach, on the Formentor peninsula, is lined with pine trees. You’re always close to the clear sparkling water of the Mediterranean when you want to cool off, and the views across the Bay of Pollensa – with boats bobbing nearby – are dreamy. You can arrive here by boat from Puerto Pollensa or by car (stopping along the peninsula road to admire some spectacular scenery). The Barceló Hotel Formentor is located here.

Illetas

This small sheltered beach has sparkling clean water and soft golden sand, and is one of the more attractive beaches on the coastline to the southwest of Palma. It’s not a very large beach, so we recommend arriving early to stake your claim to a patch of this paradise. You can hire sun loungers and parasols on the sands or chill out at one of the two good beach clubs – Virtual Club and Las Terrazas – serving this popular resort.

Son Serra de Marina

This extensive virgin sandy beach is backed by dunes and has sweeping views around the Bay of Alcúdia. Naturists will find a quiet spot to soak up the sun, and fans of water sports will benefit from sea and wind conditions that are often perfect for kite surfing and windsurfing. In cooler weather it’s a great place to walk (around to Colonia Sant Pere) or to ride a horse among the dunes. Although there are no beach services, El Sol Sunshine Bar offers food, drinks and great seaside vibes.

Cala Llamp

The water in the rocky Cala Llamp is crystal clear and thus perfect for snorkelling. The bay has no sandy beach but a sea water pool, a restaurant and a bar. Usually, there is enough parking space available. Not suitable for small children.

Cala Estellencs

This small stony beach is a tranquil spot even during high season. It offers easy access to the adjoining rock caves with good diving, snorkelling and swimming. Our tip: fill your picnic basket and spend a summer evening at the beach – the sunsets are unrivalled!

Cala Tuent

The small gravel beach is embedded in a romantic cave with steep rock faces. With its often rough waves it is the ideal diving and windsurfing ground for experienced sportsmen. Not suitable for children.

Puerto Pollensa

The sandy beach of Puerto Pollensa with its shady promenade is long, falling off gently and offers a wide choice of water sport activities. It is said to be one of the finest wind surfing areas on the island. Nice restaurants, cafés and shopping facilities are all in close reach. Many consider the long stretch of Playa de Llenaire to be one of the best beaches on Mallorca, situated within a wonderful bay. Lots of poets and painters have been inspired by the beauty of Puerto de Pollensa.

Bahía de Alcudia

The bay of Alcudia is Mallorca’s longest beach and is among the best developed areas for resorts and hotels in every price range. The good infrastructure, the wide offer of water sport activities and the flat beach make it ideal for families.

Cala Torta, Estreta, Mitjana

Cala Torta which is close to Artà, is one of the most appealing undeveloped beaches on Mallorca. Scuba-diving and snorkelling are highly recommended in this area. All of these three beaches are quite remote so be prepared for a bumpy ride through a small mountain range which takes about 25-30 minute on a road full of huge potholes. The reward is a virtually deserted white beach with crystal clear water. A small restaurant offers freshly caught fish and seafood from the Mallorcan waters. Perhaps one of best places to relax on the island. Directions: Drive out of Artà on the road to Capdepera and the beaches are signed on a small road on the left just past a petrol station.

Cala Mesquida, near Capdepera

The magnificent Mesquida bay lies six kilometres to the north of Cala Rajada and its open views make it one of the most beautiful in the north-east of the island. It has various facilities for beach visitors. A watchtower atop a small mountain looks down over the more built-up end of the beach. The fine white sands make it great for relaxing or walking, and this is one of the few beaches where surfers can often catch a wave.

Cala Millor

The stretch of beach between Cala Millor and Cala Bona is sandy and one of the best on the east coast of Mallorca. It is a kilometre-and-a-half long and backed by a promenade perfect for walking, cycling, browsing the gift shops or taking refreshments in one of the many cafés, bars or restaurants. This promenade will take you all the way to the fishing harbour at Cala Bona. The sea is initially shallow and quite safe – appropriate for children.

Cala Mondragó

This stunning sandy double bay is located in the environment-protected area of Mondragó and ranges among the most beautiful spots on the East coast. The pine wood stretches almost to the turquoise coloured sea, the sand is fine and white and the form of the bay gives it natural shelter. Ideal for families with small children. There is a beach bar offering snacks and refreshments and a big public car park.

Es Trenc between Sant Jordi and Ses Covetes

The largest unspoilt beach on the island, 60 meters wide and 3.5 km long of white sandy beach backed by sand dunes.. The beach is flat with fine white sand and turquois Carribean-like water and equally popular with tourists and the locals. Two beach bars offer refreshments and snacks with cool chill-out music playing in the background. Regrettably there are no sanitary facilities or fresh water showers and it can get rather crowded in high season, particularly at the weekend. Free parking is limited, paid parking available. Directions: Drive through Campos following signs to Santanyí. Immediately after leaving Campos there is sign on your right to Es Trenc.

Playa de Palma

Despite being one of the hotspots, Playa de Palma remains one of the nicest and most popular beaches on the island. The gently sloping beach, the clear water and the wide choice of activities are the perfect mix for a delightful day on the beach.

Cala Varques

One for those who don’t like to share the beach with too many others! On the east coast, near the Calas de Mallorca, it’s not easy to find – which is part of its attraction. Park in a lane, and pass through large metal gates to take the 15 minute walk through pines down to the cove. You’ll be rewarded with clear turquoise waters and tranquillity, but may be sharing the sands with a few naturists – and, possibly, the odd curious bull!

Cala Portals Nous

Close to the beautiful harbour of Puerto Portals you will find a long sandy beach. Popular with the local Mallorcan residents, it has sunshades and loungers to rent, and showers. With a few very nice restaurants on or close to teh beach this is a nice option for a relaxing day with the family.

Playa de Muro

Golden sandy beach that is the continuation of the beach of Puerto Alcudia until you reach Can Picafort. This stretch of Mallorcan coastline is now dotted with luxury five star hotels and good restaurants and beach clubs.
