Cala Figuera, located in the Southeast of the island is idyllic fisher village
Cala Figuera, once the port of Santanyí, is an idyllic fisher village in the Southeast of the island and is situated in the fjord-like cove of the same name in the municipality of Santanyí in the region of Migjorn.
The romantic little natural harbour in the picturesque upsilon-shaped bay is a real jewel for photo enthusiasts and offers scenic motifs all around both arms of water.
Since Cala Figuera does not have a sandy beach, the enchanting little fisher village with its white fisher huts and their characteristic boat garages could guard his pristine charm and escaped mass tourism.
Many sumptuous fig trees can still be found in this adorable place, whose name translates “Cove of the figs”. Montserrat Pons, owner of a finca of fig trees in close-by Llucmajor reveals: “The fig tree is the oldest cultivated tree existing in Mallorca.
There is no other tree around, that could have shaped economy and culture of the island any more than the fig tree. In the hot and dry center and the south of the island, the tradition of cultivating fig trees is the biggest. And since the last winter was quite rain-laden, the fruit will be particularly juicy this summer.
In the still-existent fisher port you can watch fishers do their work, see how they land the freshly caught fish, repair their boats or mend their nets.
One can spend a wonderful time in unforgettable ambiance in this typical Mallorquin village.and just rest one’s mind.
